The Padres got back on track and knocked off a losing streak with a homer-filled win in Phoenix yesterday and are hoping to secure a series win against Arizona.
Back on the mound for the Padres is Cesar Vargas (0-2, 3.34 ERA), who earned a no-decision in the eventual victory against the Dodgers that saw him pitch seven innings of four-hit two-run ball. Cesar has yet to earn that coveted first pitcher win and will look to do so in his first-ever start against the Diamondbacks. Vargas has done the most damage against the NL West with a sterling 1.47 ERA when he pitches against a NL rival.
Pitching against Vargas is Zack Greinke (5-3, 4.59 ERA), he of the massive offseason contract and arguably the biggest acquisition the Snakes made over the winter. Greinke has not been exactly as advertised, beginning the year with a rough first couple games. Zack has begun to turn it around as of late, allowing only four runs over fifteen innings in two starts. Greinke has also been historically good against San Diego, posting a 6-1 record with a 1.64 ERA over 13 starts.
The Padres bats will look to stay hot and earn a coveted win against a staff ace. Here's hoping the Padres can fill the arid desert air with more home runs and bring back a series win. Saturday night means nighttime baseball at 7:10 Left Coast Time, which is exactly the same as Arizona's never-budging Mountain Time. Enjoy your weekend social sparkler responsibly!
