Padres Preview: 5/15 Cesar Vargas looks to regain form against Brewers

Vargas will try to bounce back against Zack Davies and the Brewers to clinch a series win in Milwaukee.

After an extra-innings showdown that saw back-to-back jacks and a full effort from the bullpen, the Padres will attempt to finish the series against the Brew Crew with a win and a happy flight back home.

Cesar Vargas will take the mound and try to redeem himself after his last outing against the Cubs. Vargas gave up six runs and ten hits over four innings of work in a losing effort at Wrigley. Cesar's ERA has ballooned up to 3.54 after posting a 1.10 ERA in his first three starts and he has yet to record an all-important pitcher win. The Padres could use some solid pitching and innings from Vargas after last night's 12-inning win that used up everyone in the bullpen.

Pitching for the Brewers is Zach Davies, who earned his first victory in his last outing against the Marlins. Though starting the year off inauspiciously Davies is beginning to find a rhythm, having only allowed four runs over his last 2 starts. His best career start oddly enough was against San Diego last year, allowing 5 hits over seven innings in a 5-0 win. Melvin, Upton, Jr., went 2-2 against him that game and will hopefully do more damage in this contest.

All-Star candidate Wil Myers left the game with a calf cramp and stated he could play today. Look for Brett Wallace or possibly Derek Norris to fill in just in case Andy Green decides to be cautious with our first baseman. Noted cheater Ryan Braun may also miss the finale after missing yesterday's match with a sore wrist.

Let's hope the boys can bring home another series win. The game starts at 11:10 AM Left Coast Time, so get your Sunday brunch out of the way early.
