After losing a close one last night, the Padres will turn to Colin Rea this morning to put a stop to their losing streak and prevent the red-hot Cubs from clinching the series. A San Diego win would not only put an end to Chicago's eight-game winning streak, but also force a rubber match in this afternoon's game.
Rea's most recent start was his strongest outing of the year, by far. The young righty flirted with a no-no, keeping the Mets hitless for 6 2/3 innings. He ultimately lasted 8 full innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits and a walk. That was the third straight start where Rea allowed two runs or fewer. This morning's matchup will be his first career outing against Chicago.
On the hill for the streaking Cubs will be Kyle Hendricks. He is also coming off his best start of the year, a scoreless six-inning performance against the Nationals, whom he kept to only two hits and two walks en route to his second win of the year. In three career appearances against the Padres, Hendricks has gone 2-0, giving up only two runs through 22 total innings.
