Padres Preview: 04/30 Colin Rea looks to extend Dodgers' losing streak

The Padres will pit lefty Colin Rea against Ross Stripling in game 2 at Chavez Ravine.

Last night the Padres finally put an end to their nine-game losing streak, dating back to 2015, against the Dodgers with a 5-1 victory in the series opener in Los Angeles. To make it even sweeter, it was the Dodgers' fifth consecutive loss. Tonight the Friars will try to clinch the series and make it a six-game losing streak for their NL West rivals.

Colin Rea gets the start for San Diego, making just his third career outing against L.A. He pitched against them on Opening Day this year and turned in one inning of one-run ball in his first and only Major League relief appearance. Last year he made a solid start against them, going five innings and allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six. Rea was roughed up in his 2016 starting debut at Coors Field, but since then he's settled into his starting role. In three starts since Colorado, he's posted a 3.18 ERA while combining for 14 strikeouts through 17 total innings.

The Dodgers rookie, Stripling, who made his big league debut during Opening Week of this season, has been mostly solid in his first four Major League outings but he's still looking for his first win. Going into tonight's matchup, the right-hander is 0-1 with a 3.22 ERA.
