Did you catch the Wil Myers show tonight? It was that thing that happened during tonight's Padres game. The hunky first baseman drove in three of the team's four runs while going 3-for-3 against the Cardinals. He started the game by homering off Adam Wainwright in the first inning. Meanwhile, Andrew Cashner held the line, giving up three hits and a walk in six innings of work.
Cashner helped himself offensively, too. He led off the third with a bunt single and went all the way to third on Jon Jay's single. That's when Myers picked up RBI number two, a sacrifice fly to right. Randal Grichuk picked up the one run for St. Louis in the fourth by taking Cash deep to left center.
Some of the newer Friars picked that run back up in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Jemile Week singled to left, and then Adam Rosales brought him home with a double. In the seventh, Jose Pirela made his Padres debut, hitting a pinch hit double and then scoring on another two-bagger from Myers. And that was that. Three scoreless innings from the bullpen and Fernando Rodney sent another arrow into the San Diego sky.
Tomorrow night Cesar Vargas will make his major league debut and try to secure another series win. First pitch at 5:40 PM.
