Well, last night's joy didn't last too long. The Diamondbacks pummeled Robbie Erlin today, scoring five runs off three homers. He gave up one more run in his six innings of work. The offense put up three runs, but that was mostly on the backs of Arizona's incompetent defense.
Yasmany Tomas got the homer party started in the first, bringing in two runs right away. The Padres got those back in the bottom half of the inning. Wil Myers led off with a single, and then Cory Spangenberg turned a bunt into a single. The first D-Backs error turned that into a run and put Spangy on third. I didn't actually see the game, so I know something weird happened on the next at bat, but Matt Kemp's sacrifice fly apparently turned into him being caught out at third. LOL Diamondbacks, I guess.
The Padres got their one lead of the game in third, when Matt Kemp singled ahead of Melvin Upton's triple. That didn't last long, though. Brandon Drury hit homer number two in the fourth. Tomas hit his second bomb in the sixth, and Drury followed with a triple before scoring on the next play. The last run of the game came off yet another homer. This time it was Phil Gosselin off Kevin Quackenbush.
Anyway, lousy game. Tomorrow is an off day, with Colin Rea opening a homestand against the Pirates at 7:10 PM.
