Padres place Yangervis Solarte on disabled list, recall Alexi Amarista from AAA

Another day, another important piece of the team going on the disabled list. Just one day after the Padres announced that ace Tyson Ross will be missing time thanks to inflammation in his pitching shoulder, they placed starting third baseman Yangervis Solarte on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. In his place will be a familiar face: the Little Ninja, Sexi Alexi himself, Alexi Amarista.

Solarte's injury occurred yesterday when hitting what looked like it could be a double in the fourth inning of yesterday's big win over Colorado. He made it to first base and left the field with assistance. Adam Rosales took over for Solarte on the basepaths and then at third base.

Amarista's return from AAA El Paso marks his fifth season with the Padres; prior to this season his last time served in the minors was in 2012, right after he came to the organization in a trade with the Angels with Ernesto Frieri going the other way. Since then he has been used in a variety of roles, most notably being pressed into service last year as the starting shortstop, a task which even I, his biggest fan, could see he was not suited for.
