SD 8, ARI 8: Hedges ties up the Snakes

Austin spent his day blasting baseballs.

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Andy Green was propped up against his former club, and the Padres bats indulged themselves.

By the end of the day, the combined efforts of seven Friar arms put down 14 K's. Brandon Maurer wasn't so sharp, bleeding most of the runs at a high 5. Jose Torres and Cory Mazzoni conceded one and two more runs. But the rest of the crew was strikeout after strikeout and no return from the Dbacks.

Austin Hedges was doing most of the damage on the blue side, bombing out a solo HR and a 2-run HR at each ends of the game. Yangervis Solarte had himself a quick two-out RBI-single to start the game off, and Cory Spangenberg tied off the session with an RBI-double.

Better start getting those signatures early.

  • In the box, we had multi-hit games for the following Friars: Jon Jay, Cory Spangenberg, Yangervis Solarte, Brett Wallace, and Austin Hedges.
  • Three strikeouts in a little over an inning from Jose Torres and Cory Mazzoni.
  • Derek Norris, Hedges, and Christian Bethancourt are throwing out baserunning fools with a vengeance. 8 out of 13 have been caught stealing. Will that stop during the regular season? No.
Tomorrow we get another shot at the Diamondbacks at 3:10 PM sharp. If we win that one, the game will actually count towards our Spring Training record.
