The Padres are back home at Peoria Sports Complex this afternoon to host the Arizona Diamondbacks. Today they'll send Brandon Maurer to the hill for his Spring 2016 debut.
Maurer is a favorite to take one of the final two rotation spots left open for the Padres. The 25-year-old right-hander pitched exclusively out of the bullpen in 2015, his first season with the Padres, but he has some prior experience as a starter with his former team, the Seattle Mariners. Last year he threw 51 innings in relief for San Diego, posting a 3.00 ERA. His reliability out of the 'pen made him a candidate for a rotation spot with the Padres this season.
Today's matchup will be available on an exclusive webcast on padres.com and first pitch is set for 12:10 pm PT.
