The MLB Network has a new show hosted by Harold Reynolds called "Play Ball". The show is geared toward kids but also fun and informative for your local blogger with childlike sensibilities. It debuts this week and the first guest is Matt Kemp of your hometown San Diego Padres.
The MLB Network sent us two preview clips from the show. The first is a 5 minute Reynold's interview with Matt Kemp. There's pictures from his youth when he was known as "Lil' Big Hurt", talk of how the game is evolving with celebrations and bat flips and most importantly loads of coy looks to the camera from Kemp.
"Growing up, I was fortunate to have people around me that made sure I was having fun playing baseball," said Kemp. "The most important thing we can do for our young fans is to remind them that this is a game meant to be played and enjoyed."
The second clip is of a wiffle ball game between Trevor Hoffman and his three sons against Harold and Kemp. There's lots of friendly trash talking and giggling. I won't tell you who won, but it was totally the Hoffman boys.
Episodes will be available across multiple platforms including as a live simulcast on MLB.com and the MLB.com At Bat app, as a podcast at MLBNetwork.com and iTunes, and via participating pay TV providers’ video on demand services. Clips from each episode will be available via MLB.com, MLB.com At Bat and PlayBall.org.
