Mariners 6, Padres 5: Get the errors out of your system now

After getting shutout yesterday, the Padres put up some solid offense in the late innings against the Mariners. Unfortunately, some sloppy defense (thankfully, from a couple of scrubs who won't be anywhere near the major league roster) in the seventh inning let Seattle hang a crooked number that the good guys couldn't top.

On the pitching side, several pitchers who might make the 25-man roster had a good day. Philip Humber put up two scoreless innings to start the day. Nick Vincent threw a goose-egg in the fourth, and then Drew Pomeranz picked up a pair of strikeouts in his perfect fifth. Frank Garces got two Ks of his own in an inning and a third.

Offensively, four different Friars hit doubles, including top prospects Hunter Renfroe and Manuel Margot. But the highlight of the day goes to Christian Bethancourt, who launched a 2-run, 2-out bomb in the bottom of the ninth to bring the Padres within a run of the Mariners.

The Padres will host the World Series Champion Royals tomorrow night at 6:10 PM. Fox Sports San Diego will be there for the first TV broadcast of the spring.
