Ron Fowler: "Bottom Line: We’ve got to win baseball games" | Dan Sileo - Interviews | Mighty1090AM

  • Fowler thinks you have to be in it to win it.  He feels that this years team is better in terms of speed and defense.
"We were very disappointed in last season. Anybody that knows me and knows the make up of Peter [Seidler] and Mike [Dee] would understand that.  We think that we're going to be better than the pundits predict.  I'm hoping we'll be better than .500."
  • It takes time and luck to build a World Series team.
  • "I think the big thing with baseball is that once you sign someone you're with them for whatever the contract says.  There's very little ability to move bad contracts."
Last year, players didn't play up to their average numbers.
  • Mark McGwire's reputation as a coach is excellent.  "He came from the La Russa tree".  Fowler wants McGwire as a Padres bench coach for a number of years before he tries to become a manager.
  • "The fan experience is great, but the best part of the fan experience is winning baseball games."
