Padres 12, Dodgers 5: Friars turn Opening Day preview into a rout

Okay, before we talk about today's game, we need to address the fact that at this point in the spring, nobody is throwing up real starting pitchers against division rivals. So this game was even less of a real contest than your usual spring training game. That said... the Padres gave the Dodgers a serious beatdown! Woo! And if you like doubles, this was the day for you. Five Friars combined for six doubles as the offense rained down a dozen runs on their division rival.

Pitching was pretty solid, too, despite the five runs allowed. Erlin used this start to show off; the lefty tossed four scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and a walk while striking out three. Kevin Quackenbush put up a hitless inning. Casey Janssen got stung for one run in his inning of work, but gave up just two hits and no free passes. The one real black spot was Luis Perdomo, who will only make the team in a disaster of biblical proportions.

You can catch tomorrow's game on TV tomorrow evening, when the Padres host the Reds at 7:10 PM.
