Padres retired numbers have been removed from the batter's eye, future uncertain

The Padres announced that they were going to remove the retired numbers from the top of the batter's eye at Petco Park.  They kind of buried the information in an article about restoring Padres history, which is ironic since they're actually tearing it down.  I must have been one of the few people that read the whole article because people seem surprised when I tell them what's happening.  I'm not happy about it and the vast majority of those who hear the news don't like it either.

Padres President Mike Dee defended the removal during a televised Town Hall, saying it's what fans wanted, which just isn't true.  Fans don't get what they want from the Padres, everybody knows that.  Dee's plan is to paint the numbers on the facade on the press level in blue and yellow, which he claims is a more prominent space, also not true.  I fear the real reason is because he plans to sell the space above the batter's eye and put another advertisement in what really is the most prominent place.  After all, it always comes down to money.  What other reason could there be?

I'm repeating all of this, because I want to jog your memory.  Speaking of jogging, I went for a jog on Monday evening and cut through the Park at the Park and the numbers were gone.  I'd been waiting for Dee to make good on his promise and knew that it was going to happen, but I still couldn't quite believe it.

I didn't have my phone with me so couldn't take a picture. The next day Jonathan found the numbers in a heap at Petco Park.  Chief Marketing Officer Wayne Partello responded saying they were being picked up for restoration.

The question I asked him (didn't respond) and I ask you now, are they going back up on top of the batter's eye?  Somewhere else?  Why don't the Padres tell us things?  Because I freak out every time they do?
