The San Diego Padres will hit the road this afternoon and travel to Scottsdale Stadium where they'll face NL West rivals, the San Francisco Giants at 3:05 pm PT. Brandon Maurer will make his second Spring outing while the Giants counter with Chris Heston. Madison Bumgarner was scheduled to make the start today, but was scratched due to foot and rib issues.
The Friars are coming off an elusive Spring win that included three no-hit innings from Andrew Cashner. Maurer is also expected to go three innings, hopefully following up his troublesome Spring debut with a successful outing today. On March 8th against the Diamondbacks, he couldn't make it past one out in the second inning, allowing five runs before being exiting the game. Maurer spent all of 2015 pitching out of the bullpen for San Diego, and doing so successfully. This season the Padres are looking to convert him to a starting role, and he'll likely take the 4th spot in the rotation.
Today's lineup vs. Giants at 3:05PT features @Hunter_Renfroe as DH!
