Today we celebrate and salute our nation’s veterans. Undoubtedly everyone has people in their lives who are deserving of honor today for their service. As Padres fans, one of those people is Jerry Coleman. Although he is no longer with us, we remember him and always thank The Colonel for his service, something that he was extremely proud of and something the Padres pay tribute to with his statue at Petco Park, along with all of the other things the organization does to support and honor the military.

Three years ago on Veterans Day, Jerry and the Padres made this video to salute the veterans of the United States Armed Forces. The former Marine talks about what his service meant to him and how much he loved the close relationship between the Padres and the U.S. military. I’m just so glad videos like this exist to allow us to continue hearing Jerry’s voice again.

Happy Veterans Day to my dad and grandpa, to Jerry Coleman, and to all the veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. And thank you for everything you do.
