SD 5, ARI 9: Second game lost, One more to go

It’s almost over folks. The bad news is after tomorrow there will be no more Padres baseball. The good news is that after tomorrow there will be no more of this particular type of Padres baseball. Hopefully.

This Saturday game in Chase Field had Clayton Richard throwing his last start as a 2016 Padre. Whether or not we’ll see him next season is yet to be seen, but today he didn’t really make a case for a starter return. In 4 innings he allowed 7 runs, though only 4 of them earned.

Relievers Kevin Quackenbush and Leonel Campos also allowed a run a piece. In total, the Padres pitching let the Diamondbacks score 9 times. Meanwhile, the Padres bats were at least putting together a comeback.

In the second, Prince Carlos Asuaje plated Yangervis Solarte with an RBI single. Solarte hit an RBI double the next inning. The Friars were swining in the eight, trying to give the Dbacks a reason to sweat other than the stuffy domed desert stadium. Wil Myers and Derek Norris both plated a Padre with RBI singles. Then Hunter Renfroe collected yet another RBI with his second RBI double.

The runs petered out, and there was no 9th inning push. The Pads lose their second to last game, and are now in a position where if they don’t win tomorrow they will have officially finished last in the NL West.

WE MUST WIN ONE MORE.
