After splitting the first two games, the Padres will try to go ahead in the series against the Dodgers tonight when they send Tyson Ross to the mound. Meanwhile, Alex Wood will get the ball and make his seventh start since joining Los Angeles last month.
Ross is coming off back-to-back winning decisions that put him at 10-9 on the season with an overall 3.27 ERA. His most recent outing was one of his strongest performances of the year, with the right-hander throwing seven innings of scoreless baseball while keeping the Rangers to just three hits and two walks, and striking out seven.
He took a no-decision in his last start against the Dodgers on April 7th. Ross went six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks in that appearance. It was the ninth time he faced L.A. in his career, and seventh time in a starting role. But despite an all-time 2.81 ERA against them, he has yet to snag a winning decision. Hopefully that's something the Padres can change for him today.
Wood is also hoping to get some support from the Dodgers this evening. In his last outing the Dodgers were no-hit by the Cubs' Jake Arrieta, meaning Wood's six innings of work with two runs allowed resulted in a loss for him. Since joining the Dodgers, Wood is 2-3 with a 4.11 ERA in six starts.
Tonight will be Wood's first time facing the Padres this season, and only third time facing them in his career. He has one start and one relief appearance against them prior to 2015, and he's 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in those two outings.
