It's been a long road to recovery for Casey Kelly, and his first start since 2012 is just another step in that process. His six runs allowed in five innings on the mound were good, but it was good to see him get out there and throw some pitches.
Casey's trouble started with the second at bat. Phil Gosselin doubled to center, and A.J. Pollock followed that with an RBI single. Paul Goldschmidt came up with a double of his own to make it 2-0 Arizona. But it was the second inning that really did the Padres in. A beanball and a pair of singles loaded the bases for Pollock, and he took advantage of it. His grand slam to center field made it 6-0 bad guys. The Padres managed to smallball their way to three runs later in the game, but it was too little, too late.
Robbie Erlin will toe the rubber tomorrow night. First pitch at 5:40 PM.
