Game 150 Preview: 09/20 Padres @ Rockies

The Padres will try to avoid a sweep in their final game against the Rockies this season.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Padres and Rockies conclude their season series this afternoon with the finale of their three-game set at Coors Field. San Diego will turn to James Shields to try to salvage a win and avoid a sweep by Colorado. He'll be opposed by Kyle Kendrick, who is making his fourth start since coming back from the disabled list.

Shields is 3-0 in his last four starts, posting a 3.24 ERA through 25 innings in that stretch. The Padres ace is also 3-0 in four starts against the Rockies this season, and 5-1 in seven starts against the Rockies all-time. Shields leads the San Diego rotation with 12 wins in 2015 while posting a 3.80 ERA.

Kendrick's DL stint in August was a result of right shoulder inflammation, but he's been solid since returning at the beginning of September. In three starts this month, he is 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA and is coming off his first pair of consecutive wins all season.

But Kendrick has struggled overall in the already hitter-friendly Coors Field. In his first season as a Rockie, he's gone 2-5 while posting a 6.91 ERA in 11 starts at home. One of those starts was against the Padres, and it was one of his better ones. He went seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, including two home runs. But the Rockies came out victorious in that game and Kendrick got a no-decision for his effort. Overall Kendrick is 1-1 with a 6.88 ERA in three starts against the Padres this season and 5-3 with a 4.99 ERA in 10 appearances (nine starts) all-time against the Padres.
