The Padres and Rangers have evened up the series at a game apiece heading into the finale tonight. It'll be a battle of SoCal natives as Ian Kennedy goes against Cole Hamels to wrap up the three-game set, and season series, between the two teams.

Kennedy is coming off a solid start against the Phillies, though he came away with a losing decision. He threw 6 2/3 frames of two-run ball, striking out seven while allowing only two hits, but also issuing five walks along the way. The result was his 12th loss of the season. He also lost his start against the Rangers back in July, giving up four runs (three earned) in 4 2/3 innings of work, allowing four hits, including two home runs, to Texas hitters. That was his second loss in as many tries against Texas all-time for Kennedy. He has an overall 8.10 ERA in ten innings against them.

Hamels is no stranger to San Diego, nor to the Padres. Tonight the San Diego native makes his 17th career start against the Friars, but first since being traded to the Rangers last month. He has a 9-2 record and 2.15 ERA in his previous 16 meetings with them. Of those outings, half took place at Petco Park, where he is 5-1 with a 1.78 ERA. Hamels is 8-8 on the season with a 3.69 ERA, but 2-1 since joining Texas.
