After winning the series against the Diamondbacks and then taking the day off yesterday, the Padres will wrap up their second to last road trip of the season with a series in Colorado starting tonight. Ian Kennedy will take the hill opposite fellow right-hander Chad Bettis in the opener of the three-game set.
Kennedy is coming off one of his worst starts of the season. He only lasted 4 2/3 innings at AT&T Park against the Giants, giving up seven runs (all earned) on seven hits and three walks. He is 0-3 in his last four starts, posting a 5.79 ERA in that stretch. Kennedy has already faced the Rockies three times this season, going 1-2 with a 3.57 ERA in those games. Career-wise, he is 6-6 with a 2.96 ERA in 21 starts against Colorado all-time.
Bettis didn't get a decision in his only start against San Diego this season. He threw six innings of three-run ball, allowing three hits (including a home run) and a walk. That was his second career start, and fifth appearance overall, against the Padres, and he has yet to get a decision. But Bettis is coming off one of his strongest starts of the year, a seven-inning shutout against the Mariners. He kept Seattle hitters to only three hits and three walks while striking out six en route to a win.
The Padres are so far 11-5 against the Rockies this season, though just 4-3 at Coors Field. This weekend set will conclude their season series against the division rivals.
