Baseball teams have been hosting Star Wars days for a long, long time and I'm not even entirely sure what the connection is but people love it. They looooove it. Now the Padres have finally bowed to their new master, money and merchandise. On September 26 they'll probably have Chewbacca throw out the first pitch, Photoshop players into compromising positions while chained to Jabba the Hutt and try to convert fans to an ancient religion.
This may be the only acceptable time to wear your Padres hat with Star Wars brim.
Star Wars Day at Petco Park | San Diego Padres
Join the many Hans Solos, Darth Vaders, Chewbaccas, Princess Leias, Luke Skywalkers and Stormtroopers as they invade Petco Park on Saturday, September 26 for STAR WARS® Day.
Hans Solos.
Here's how it works, the first 2,000 fans that buy tickets between $22 and $38 get one of these T-shirts. The Jedd-i and Kempire shirts are pretty good. The "Feel the Force!" one has zero connection to the Padres as far as I can tell. The final shirt where Petco Park replaces the Death Star hints at something nefarious no doubt.
