The Padres came up with ten runs last night in their series opener against the Diamondbacks. They'll try to repeat the success tonight in game 2 at Chase Field, as Tyson Ross takes the hill against one of the newest Dbacks, Jhoulys Chacin.
Ross is 0-1 in his last two starts, though both were solid performances. He kept the Dodgers and Rockies to a combined four runs on nine hits through 13 innings of work. Tonight will be his fourth outing against the Diamondbacks in 2015, and he'll try to continue his dominance over them. He went 2-0 with a 2.14 ERA in his first three starts against them this season. That includes a complete game in which he allowed only one run on four hits and a walk while striking out nine batters. And it's not just this season that Ross has pitched well against Arizona. In 12 career appearances (11 starts) against the Snakes, he is 4-3 with a 2.75 ERA.
Chacin is making just his third Major League start of what's been a rough season for the right-hander. After being released by the Rockies, and then the Indians, earlier this year, the Dbacks signed him as a Minor League free agent in June. He made 13 starts with their Triple-A affiliate, going 6-3 with a 3.22 ERA, before getting the call-up in August. In his first two starts as a Diamondback, he allowed a combined five runs (four earned) in 13 1/3 innings. Tonight he'll try to build on an all-time 5-2 record and 2.88 ERA in 12 appearances (nine starts) against San Diego.
