SD 0, SF 8: Padres lose despite getting a hit

It was a blowout, but we didn't get no-hit.

What's worse than a 6 run differential? An eight run differential. But hey, at least we weren't no-hit. The Padres couldn't do a thing off of Madison Bumgarner tonight, as the series in the bay shifted entirely over to the Giants for the second night in the row.

Ian Kennedy's performance was the virtual opposite of the bum's. He lasted about four and a half innings and gave up 7 runs in 7 hits, only striking out two. Marcos Mateo provided some solid relief, not that it mattered at the point. Frank Garces gave up the 8th and final run of the night.

But out of the shadows came a pinch-hitting Melvin Upton Jr. He finally popped one off of Madison on 2 outs in spite of some bad career numbers against him. Melvin was the true hero of the night, allowing the Padres to avoid the fourth cycle from the Gnats in 6 years.

Even worse is that Colin Rae is scratched from tomorrow's game due to some arm and elbow funkiness. We'll have to cross our fingers and deal with an Odrisamer Despaigne start. Somebody help us.
