If you live outside San Diego or have been confined to an air conditioned room for the past two days then you may not realize that we are experiencing record high temperatures. Yesterday was blazing hot. I was driving home at 8:30 pm and it was still 91 degrees. That isn't normal. Today there was cloud cover but the city felt like an armpit and not in a good way.
From everything I hear this afternoon's game was very lightly attended. I haven't seen the official attendance numbers but it's safe to say that fans didn't want to sit out in the heat and humidity. We like the baseball but not that much. The fans that did show up were in for a rare treat. Baseball teams are never this nice.
Come on down! Fans in the upper levels of the park today can make their way down to field level and sit in any open seat! ⬇️— Petco Park (@PetcoPark) September 10, 2015
Can they do that? It doesn't even seem possible. Shouldn't Commisioner Emeritus Bud Selig put a stop to this kind of kindness in some way.
Then they took it a step further, they wanted to make sure that the crowd didn't get a case of heat madness.
We've got $1 bottles of water for the rest of today's game! Stay hydrated, fans! pic.twitter.com/2bmYvsNBXW— Petco Park (@PetcoPark) September 10, 2015
Let me tell you, you can't buy anything at Petco Park for $1 on a mild day. Wish I could have been there to see it.
