The Padres will go for a split today as they wrap up their series, and the road trip, in Milwaukee.
Odrisamer Despaigne gets the start for San Diego in the finale, making his second career start against the Brewers. In his first time around, he didn't get the decision despite pitching seven strong innings. He kept Milwaukee to two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out nine batters.
Despaigne is coming off back-to-back wins, both against the Marlins. He allowed a combined four runs on seven hits through 12 innings of work in those two outings. Prior to that he had gone eight straight appearances (seven starts) without a win. Overall on the season he is 5-7 with a 4.75 ERA.
Milwaukee starter Matt Garza is coming off back-to-back losses, giving up three runs each to the Diamondbacks and the Cubs, while going 11 2/3 total innings. Garza's had a rough season, going 5-12 in his first 20 outings (19 starts) with a 5.17 ERA. But Garza has had some success against the Padres in the past. In three career appearances against San Diego, Garza is undefeated (2-0) with a 2.14 ERA through 21 innings.
