Up until he was traded to the Rangers two weeks ago, Will Venable was the longest-tenured member of the Padres. He appeared in 918 games for the club, putting him at sixth place all time, ahead of Chase Headley and behind Gene Richards. So it's strange to see him return to Petco Park in someone else's colors, but his eight seasons in San Diego endeared him to the city, and it was no surprise to see fans welcome him with a standing ovation.
Will also got a nice welcome from his former ballclub, who put together a nice video tribute highlighting his incredible defense some of his best offensive moments.
Nice video tribute to Will Venable on #SDinHD in the middle of the first inning of tonight's game. Thank you, Will! https://t.co/WuKjsE3Tyu
