Game 130 Preview: 08/30 Padres @ Phillies

James Shields will get the start for San Diego while Alec Asher makes his big league debut for Philadelphia.

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

After extending their losing streak to three games last night, the Padres will turn to their ace, James Shields, today in the series finale to try to salvage a win and avoid a sweep at the hands of the Phillies.

Shields lost his most recent outing, throwing 5 2/3 frames against the Nationals and giving up five runs on eight hits and four walks. Overall he is 9-6 with a 3.89 ERA this season. Shields is undefeated (2-0) in four career appearances against Philadephia, but has posted a 5.70 ERA in those starts.

On the hill for the Phillies to face the veteran Shields will be Alec Asher, making his Major League debut. Asher came over to Philadelphia from Texas in the Cole Hamels trade. He made four starts with the Phillies' Triple-A club in Lehigh Valley, going 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA, before being called up.
