Game 128 Preview: 08/28 Padres @ Phillies

Ian Kennedy faces Aaron Nola in the first of three games at Citizen's Bank Park.

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

The Padres are in Philadelphia looking to rebound from a disappointing three-game set in Washington. Before dropping two of three to the Nationals, San Diego had won four series in a row -- a streak that started right after being swept by these Phillies. The Padres are 10-5 since that sweep; Philadelphia is 5-11 in that time. Most recently they allowed 40 runs in a four-game sweep at the hands of the Mets.

Ian Kennedy will be making his twenty-fourth start of the season for San Diego. He's 8-11 in his 23 starts, with a 4.01 ERA over 128 innings. He has a lifetime 3-2 record with an ERA of 3.33 against Philadelphia. Kennedy most recently faced them last September 16 and got the win, allowing three earned runs on three hits and four walks over six innings.

Phillies rookie Aaron Nola will be making just his eighth major league appearance, all starts. The Padres will be the first team he's faced twice, as he took a no-decision in Philadelphia's 4-3 victory back on August 7. He allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks and two hit batsmen, striking out a career-high tying six batters in the process. Nola is 4-1 on the season with his lone loss coming in his debut. He is coming off his best start of the season; he allowed a career-low three hits in a career-high eight innings and allowed no runs for the first time, dropping his ERA to 3.59.

Nola's first pitch is scheduled for 4:05pm San Diego time, 7:05pm Philadelphia time. Tune in to Fox Sports San Diego or The Mighty 1090, and join us back here for the game thread. That's an order.
