The Padres and Nationals finish up their three-game set in D.C. this evening with a rubber game to determine the winner of the series.
Heading to the mound for San Diego will be Andrew Cashner, who's coming off a great win against the Cardinals. He kept the MLB leaders to just one run, unearned, on four hits and two walks, striking out eight through six innings of work. Tonight will be his second outing against the Nationals this season. He threw six innings against them on May 16, allowing four runs (three earned) and taking the loss. Overall he has faced the Nats ten times in his career, but only half of those have been starts. He's 2-3 with a 3.90 ERA all-time against them.
Taking the hill for D.C. will be a familiar face to the Padres. Joe Ross will make his first career appearance against the team who drafted him in 2011, just one day after his big brother pitched for them. Ross was traded to the Nationals last December after spending four seasons with the organization. He never made it to the big leagues with the Padres, but was called up by the Nationals and made his Major League debut on June 6th of this season. Since then he's made ten starts, going 4-6 with a 3.56 ERA in that stretch.
