While the Padres were busy sealing the deal on an 8-0 win over the Cardinals Saturday night, Derek Norris was off the field getting x-rays, which ultimately revealed a bit of bad news.
Norris went 1-for-3 on the night with a triple and also reached base on a hit-by-pitch. He scored two of the Padres' eight runs. Then in the 8th inning, with Kevin Quackenbush pitching and Peter Bourjos pinch-hitting, Norris caught a fastball to his left wrist and had to exit the game early. Austin Hedges took over for the remainder of the game, and now it looks like he may be taking over for a little while longer.
During his postgame press conference, Padres interim manager Pat Murphy seemed optimistic about Norris. But shortly after, Norris' x-ray results revealed a left wrist contusion (bruised wrist) and the Padres announced the catcher would be day-to-day.

Again, this likely means a little more time at the backstop for Hedges while the Padres proceed with caution with Norris. Though hopefully Norris will be back in action sooner than later.
