Tonight's victory by the Padres was a special one, for a lot of different reasons. Travis Jankowski made his Major League debut and got his first two career hits, collected his first career RBI, and scored his first career run. Yangervis Solarte hit his third home run in as many games. Justin Upton got his 600th career RBI. His brother Melvin Upton Jr. celebrated his birthday with a pinch-hit double. The Padres beat the (literal) best team in baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals, by six runs.
Oh, and it was the 500th win in Petco Park history. It took over 16 years and 950 games, but the Padres have reached the 500-win milestone at their downtown San Diego ballpark.
In a season full of downs, these past ten days or so have been packed with ups. We now live in a world where the Padres are no longer without a cycle. The team is playing like they're chasing a playoff spot right now. Maybe in a month they'll be even closer. And now, we can celebrate 500 wins at Petco Park.
