The Padres and Rockies close out their three-game series at Coors Field this afternoon. The Padres took the first two games and are itching for a sweep, while the Rockies are looking to get back in the win column after extending their losing streak to six games.
Ian Kennedy gets the start in today's finale, hoping for a second straight win. He kept the Reds to one run on five hits through five innings his last time out, striking out four batters but also issuing a season-high six walks. His one run allowed, though, was a solo shot. Kennedy has given up 25 home runs this season, which is second highest in the National League.
In his most recent appearance against Colorado, he gave up two homers - also solo shots, and his only runs of the game - through six innings of work to earn the win. He's had a solid career altogether against the Rockies, going 6-4 with a 2.87 ERA in 19 starts all-time.
Chris Rusin hasn't had much experience against the Padres, having faced them only once in his career. But that one start was a successful one. He threw 6 1/3 shutout innings, giving up three hits and issuing four walks as a member of the Cubs in 2013. In 15 starts with the Rockies this season he is 35 with a 4.43 ERA.
