Game 87 Preview: 07/08 Padres @ Pirates

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

After losing last night's game by a score of 3-2, the Padres have secured their first ever series loss at PNC Park. Tonight they have one last chance to make sure it's not a sweep as they close out the three-game set against the Pirates and try to go into the off day Thursday with a win.

Andrew Cashner is in the midst of arguably the worst season of his career. Seventeen games in, he is 3-9 with a 4.06 ERA. He is, however, 0-1 in his last two starts coming into tonight's matchup. Cashner kept opponents to a combined three runs on 11 hits and three walks, striking out nine batters through 13 innings of work in his last two outings.

In six career appearances (two starts) against Pittsburgh, Cashner is 1-3, but four of the six runs he's allowed to them were unearned. His ERA through 19 total innings of work against the Pirates is 0.95.

Charlie Morton has also made six career appearances against the Padres, but all of his were starts. He is 4-1 with a 2.65 ERA in those six outings. That includes a one-run, seven-inning performance against them this May. He kept the Friars to only three hits and a walk that time, and he'll try to repeat this evening to lead the Bucs to a sweep.
