Padres 3, Marlins 2: Did Juston Upton just win his last home game at Petco Park?

With today's 3-2 victory over the Marlins, the Padres have wrapped up their homestand with a nice little winning streak. It remains to be seen how many players responsible for that streak will return to Petco Park after this road trip, but at least they're leaving on a high note.

The Friars got on the board first, when Man Most Likely To Be Traded Justin Upton hit a leadoff homer in the second inning. Yonder Alonso and Jedd Gyorko followed up with a pair of singles to put runners at the corners, and Alonso scored on Alexi Amarista's sacrifice fly. The Marlins let those runs go unanswered until the fifth, when they played some serious smallball. J.T. Realmuto and Miguel Rojas led off the inning with a pair of singles. Mat Latos moved them over with a sacrifice bunt, and Ichiro Suzuki put the fish on the board with a sac fly.

The Padres didn't let that run stand. In the sixth, Will Venable hit a leadoff double. Yangervis Solarte followed up with a sacrifice bunt, and Matt Kemp's ground out plated the run. That insurance came in handy when Realmuto homered off Brandon Maurer in the seventh. That was all the Marlins would get, as Joaquin Benoit and Craig Kimbrel finished the job, with a little help from Venable.

The Padres have an off day tomorrow as they head to New York. James Shields will start Tuesday's game at 4:10 PM.
