Game 96 Preview: 07/23 Padres vs. Marlins

After winning three straight to begin the second half of the season, the Padres dropped their final two games in the Giants series and get themselves in a sad little slump. Hopefully Tyson Ross can help them right the ship when he takes the mound tonight in the opener of a four-game set against the visiting Marlins.

Ross is undefeated (3-0) in his last six games, posting a 2.23 ERA in that stretch. Tonight will mark just his third career outing, and second start, against Miami. The most recent of those appearances took place May 9th of last year. He threw seven innings of one-run ball, allowing only four hits and issuing two walks while collecting eight strikeouts.

The Marlins will counter with Tom Koehler, who hopes to put an end to his own two-game losing streak and get some decent defense behind him. The righty gave up eight combined runs in his last two starts, though only three of those were earned. Like his counterpart Ross, Koehler has pitched against the Padres twice prior to tonight's meeting, and only once as a starter. He opened his 2014 season against San Diego, going six innings and allowing two runs on seven hits.
