All eyes are on Padres GM A.J. Preller just wondering how he'll change horses in midstream. He burned down the farm in the offseason to build a playoff caliber team with players we'd actually heard of and so far the plan has failed miserably.
As the trade deadline approaches the Padres must certainly be sellers. A quick 5 game win streak gave us a brief glimmer of hope but the Giants put that to rest by dropping 16 runs on the team in the last two days. Opposing teams are now circling the Padres carcass looking to pick bits of talent from the friar.
If you're a Padres fan it's demoralizing to hear our offseason stars being traded away in rumors and speculation throughout the league. Tyson Ross seems like a big piece to give up to the Orioles for a player like Kevin Gausman and doesn't solve any immediate problems.
SD needs some imaginative deals to get younger, shed payroll. One idea (speculation): JUpton, T. Ross for Gausman, 1 other lesser prospect.

@sdutCanepa They're not in a position to have many better ideas than that, given the service time/salaries/lack of prospects.

Meanwhile Jon Morosi reports the Mets and Cubs are said to be interested in Will Venable who will be a free agent at the end of the season.
#Mets showing interest in Will Venable, in addition to Gerardo Parra, among left-handed outfield options. #Cubs like both too.

I'm excited to see what Preller has planned in the next few weeks. I just hope that the team is putting their main focus on next year and not trying to still raise this season from the ashes. That time is done.
