Game 93 Preview: 07/20 Padres vs. Giants

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

The Padres didn't get a chance to complete their series against the Rockies thanks to some much-needed, but poorly-timed rain. So today they'll once again try to extend their win streak to five games and creep up on the Giants in the division standings. But the Giants are riding a win streak of their own, totaling six games so far.

Ian Kennedy will make the start in the series opener against San Francisco, hoping to continue his success against the Giants this season. In three starts against them, Kennedy is 1-1 with a 1.17 ERA, much better than his overall 4-9 record and 4.91 ERA. And it's not just this season that Kennedy's pitched well against SF. In 23 career starts against the Giants, he is 10-5 with a 2.38 ERA, with batters hitting .216 off him.

Tonight's opposing pitching, Tim Hudson, has performed similarly well against the Padres in his career. In his 15 years in the big leagues, Hudson has made 19 appearances (18 starts) against San Diego, going 7-4 with a 2.89 ERA and .261 BAA. He pitched once against them earlier this season, going 6.1 scoreless innings and allowing only five hits, but also walking five along the way.
