The Might 1090's Marty Caswell talked to the Padres' number one starter James Shields. He's been the subject of trade rumors since he might be valuable to another team's staff as they attempt to make a playoff run. With the Padres basically out of the hunt he could become expendable and give the Padres a way to recoup some of their investment in him. Buster Olney says that the Padres have made it known that Shields is available.
Scouts were out in mass watching his last start on Friday.
James Shields on why he’d be shocked if traded | Mighty1090AM
No less than 15 MLB scouts were in attendance on Friday at Petco Park for James Shields’ last start versus the Colorado Rockies.
For his part Shields said the trade deadline and the rumors are part of the game but that he'd be "shocked" if he was actually traded.
"I would. I would. I love this city and I love this team. Right now my main focus is winning ball games for the San Diego Padres."
Marty asks him if he's been in contact with A.J. Preller and Shields responds that he knows about as much as everybody else.
