With the 2015 All-Star Break now behind us, the Padres get set to open up the second half of the season. They'll do so with a series against Rockies at home this evening, and just like on Opening Day back in April, they'll give the ball to James Shields to try to kick things off on a positive note.
The last time the Padres and Rockies met, the Padres completed a sweep while outscoring the Rockies 26 runs to 11. Shields pitched in that series, and won, but it wasn't his best work. He gave up five earned runs through 5 1/3 innings against them on May 3rd at Petco Park. He gave up fewer runs (three) while going six innings against them two starts earlier, on April 22nd in Colorado.
Shields started off his season strong, going 7-0 through his first twelve starts. He hasn't gotten a win since June 3rd, however, going 0-3 in his last seven starts.
Jorge de la Rosa gets the start for the Rockies, searching for his seventh win. The lefty went 6-3 in 14 starts before the All-Star Break. Two of his three losses came at the hands of the Padres, who combined for ten earned runs off de la Rosa in seven total innings of work in those two games.
