Padres games on FSSD have higher ratings than "Game of Thrones"

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Things haven't gone the Padres way this season, but strangely I find the team more watchable than in years past. I guess I'd rather watch Matt Kemp strike out than Will Venable, but I'm still okay with watching Venable strike out too.  Meanwhile my game attendance has dropped significantly but I just keep tuning in to watch the games on Fox Sports San Diego.  I'm not alone apparently.

FSSD viewership is up 52% over last year.  The 2014 Padres while also losers, were simply unwatchable, so I understand the bump.  Surprisingly the Padres Live postgame show is up 49%.  I'm rarely among those viewers, in fact I don't think I've watched any FSSD programming outside of Padres Social Hour and the games this season.  It's likely because I gave up my DVR during the winter and I never know when the peripheral programming is on.  As long as I'm revealing things about my TV habits I should probably also admit that I watch the games in low-def now.

Ok, here's the rating stat that got me.  The 17 highest-rated games ever on FSSD occurred this season.  Most of those high ratings were early in the season when another popular cable show was releasing new episodes.  But Padres games averaged 4.81 HH beating "Game of Thrones" which recorded 2.44 HH. (via Nielsen 04/12/2015 - 06/14/2015).  While we have to wait until next season to see if Jon Snow is really dead, we get to watch the Padres in their death throes for another few months.
