The Padres' comeback was too little, too late last night as the series opener in Arlington went to the Rangers. San Diego's ace, James Shields, will take the mound in game 2 tonight as they try to even up the series and avoid a seventh straight loss.
Shields leads the Padres with seven wins this season, but it's been six starts since his last. The former AL pitcher has faced the Rangers 13 times in his career, with mixed results. He is 7-3 with a 2.44 ERA in those 13 starts, but just 3-3 with a 3.31 ERA in seven at Globe Life Stadium.
Heading to the hill for Texas will be Colby Lewis, who is coming off one of his worst outings of the year. He was tagged for ten earned runs on 12 hits and two walks, lasting just four innings against the Angels his last time out. But prior to that start, Lewis was on a roll. He went 4-0 with a 3.29 ERA in six June starts leading up to his meeting with the Angels. Tonight will be his first career appearance against the Padres.
