San Diego is back at .500 on the season, but hope to open up the four-game set in Atlanta on a positive note.

The Padres left Cincinnati with a series win, and they'll try to do the same with Atlanta as they begin a four-game set against the Braves this afternoon.

Ian Kennedy will kick things off and try to build off his latest outing, when he kept the Mets to two earned runs on two hits through six innings of work, striking out a season-high eight batters along the way to his first win since May 6th.  Kennedy has struggled for most of the season, but in his start against the Mets he tried out some new adjustments to his mechanics, and he looked much better.  Kennedy is 2-0 with a 3.54 ERA in seven career starts against Atlanta.

Shelby Miller will go for the Braves in the series opener, coming off his shortest outing of the year. He  gave up four runs and walked six batters (both season-highs) through 4 1/3 innings, but didn't factor into the decision. Miller holds a 1-1 record while posting a 4.79 ERA in four career appearances (three starts) against the Padres.
