AleSmith Mr. Padre 5.5K will take place Father's Day Weekend

The San Diego brewery looks to raise funds for their proposed Tony Gwynn Museum and benefit TAG.

AleSmith

For fans of baseball and craft beer, San Diego is like a haven.  Local favorite, AleSmith Brewing Company, is one of the best examples of that, especially in recent months with all they've done to honor the late Tony Gwynn.  Their aptly-named .394 Pale Ale and subsequent special release, Hall of Fame Imperial Pale Ale, were a result of collaboration between the brewery and Gwynn in early 2014.

AleSmith, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, is also planning to open a Tony Gwynn museum within the walls of their state-of-the-art brewing facility located at their new Miramar location, dubbed "AleSmith 2.0."  To kickstart the funding for the museum, as well as to benefit the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation (TAG), the brewery is hosting the Mr. Padre 5.5K this upcoming Father's Day weekend.  Half a kilometer longer than the typical 5K, the walk/run will begin and end at AleSmith's new facility, as well as include a pit stop at their original location. Dogs, strollers, and kids are all welcome to come and join in the fun as well.

Following the race will be a post-race party at AleSmith 2.0 from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm.  The festivities will include live music from Anisha Gwynn and local bands, local food trucks (including Gwynn's Gourmet Food Truck), and - naturally - beer.  Each race participant will receive with their registration either one or two drink tickets, each of which will be good for a pint of AleSmith beer from an outdoor beer garden featuring some of the brewery's staples.  An even larger selection of beer will be available for purchase inside AleSmith's new Observation Room.

Depending on which "level" you register under, there are also other goodies included such as t-shirts, goodie bags, and souvenir pint glasses.  If you shell out $90 for the highest level of registration, you will also receive a second AleSmith t-shirt and a bottle of Hall of Fame Imperial Pale Ale signed by Alesmith owner/CEO Peter Zien and Tony Gwynn, Jr. Children are also welcome to participate in the event. Kids' registration is free and comes with a race bib, as well as the option to purchase a race t-shirt.
