After a glorious come-from-behind victory last night, the Padres now find themselves looking to secure a sweep in the finale at Great American Ballpark.
Odrisamer Despaigne will make his first career appearance against San Diego, working on an extra day of rest after the Padres flip-flopped him and Andrew Cashner for this weekend series. Despaigne pitched one of his best games of the season a week ago against the Pirates, throwing eight innings of one-run ball with four strikeouts along the way to his third win of 2015. Overall, Despaigne is 3-3 with a 4.56 ERA in 11 appearances (seven starts) this season.
The Reds will counter with their ace, Johnny Cueto, to try to prevent the sweep. In his most recent outing, he allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits through six innings of work, though he didn't factor into the decision. He had missed his start prior to that due to elbow stiffness. So far in ten starts this season, Cueto is 3-4 with a 2.90 ERA. In seven career starts against the Padres, he is 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA.
