Andrew Cashner hasn't had the best month, but he'll get a chance to end it on a positive note tonight as he takes the mound against the Diamondbacks in game 2 of the series at Petco Park. In his most recent outing, also against these Dbacks, he only lasted four innings as Arizona scored seven runs under his watch. Only three of those runs were earned, however, and he kept them to only four hits on that start. Overall in three previous starts against them this season, he's posted a 2.65 ERA.
Jeremy Hellickson pitched opposite Cashner in that last meeting and came out on the better end of it, tossing six innings and allowing only two runs to the Padres. He could have pitched more, too, but left the game with a tweaked back. After undergoing an MRI, however, Hellickson was cleared for tonight's start. He'll try for his seventh quality start in eight tries.
