The Padres have the advantage so far in the season series against the Giants, winning four of the first seven meetings between the two teams. Meanwhile, San Diego will try to get past this slump they're in and get bac

Odrisamer Despaigne is on the bump for the series opener, hoping to continue his success against the Giants. Last season Despaigne made his major league debut against San Francisco, tossing seven shutout innings while allowing just four hits and no walks. Career-wise, he boasts a 1.10 ERA in 24 2/3 innings against them, with current Giants hitting only .125 off of him. Another successful outing against them is just what he needs to rebound from his most recent outing, a six-inning start that saw him yield six runs on eight hits and a walk against the other Bay Area team, the Athletics. That was his fifth loss of the season.

The Padres will also need to get some runs on the board against Madison Bumgarner tonight. In his career against San Diego, he is 7-5 with a 3.56 ERA in 20 appearances (19 starts).  That includes, most recently, a 7 1/3-inning two-hit performance last month. It also includes his worst outing of the 2015 season. He gave up five earned runs on ten hits and lasted only three innings.
