Tony Gwynn Jr. hits walk-off single on Father's Day

Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

Tony Gwynn Jr. has been playing this season in the Nationals' farm system for their AAA affiliate.  Yesterday, on Father's Day, his team was locked in a 0-0 tie in the bottom of the 10th inning.   Gwynn stepped to the batter's box with a runner in scoring position at second base.

He did what Gwynns do.  He hit a walk-off single up the middle to win the game for his Syracuse Chiefs.  It was surely a special moment for the young Gwynn.  The last time that Gwynn Jr. talked to his Hall of Fame father was on Father's Day of last year, the next day he passed away from cancer.

Coincidentally, it was the 19th RBI of the year for Tony. If that doesn't give you goosebumps, I don't know what will.

I bet the Tony Sr. would have been proud.
