Padres pitching and hitting came together last night, culminating in a glorious 8-1 win over the Diamondbacks and arguably the best game of the year. Tyson Ross pitched an absolute gem, which hopefully Andrew Cashner can rival this afternoon in the rubber game at Chase Field.
The third win if the season continues to elude Cashner, who is 0-1 in June. At the beginning of the season, Cashner's story was one of tough luck and little run support from his offense, but over the past month or so his pitching has fallen off as well. Since May 22, he's pitched to the tune of a 5.66 ERA, allowing 22 earned runs over that six-game stretch. Cashner last both of his stats against Arizona earlier this season, though the second of those starts was one of those tough-luck situations. He threw seven innings and kept the Dbacks to two runs on four hits and no walks, but was still tagged with the loss when the Padres offense only managed to score one run.
